i'd love it if we made it
[ It wasn't the first time he's woken up to the sun filtered in through blinds that were not his own. The angle is all wrong--his room faces West--the irony of which was never lost on him--but this is a direct hit on his face with the sunrise. Adam breathes sharply through his nose as he peels open an eye to glare blearily at the sun.
He's normally a decently early riser, but even somedays he can indulge. Days like this one.
It may not have been the first time ever, but it was certainly the first time in a long time that he's woken up to the sun falling on this man. The sun is hardly a comparison as he turns his gaze to Takashi's sleeping face.
He exhales again.
No rush. Not today.
So he buries his face back into the pillow and Takashi's shoulder. ]

[But... somehow... last night? Last night he actually slept. How long is up in the air, since a lot of other things happened too.]
[Something shifts. Someone shifts. It's enough to get him to flutter his eyes open, blearily. There's a lot of light coming in the room. How late in the morning is it? Does he need to get up, is someone trying to reach him, should he...]
[His eyes shift. Taking in the back of someone's head, buried in his shoulder. A certain someone.]
[And curls into the warmth of Adam. Just for a little longer.]
no subject
Well, not entirely blank. Adam doesn't really fall back asleep, but the allows himself a few more moments to simply enjoy the presence of another person--rather, this particular person. Someone who he thought he was never going to see again. What lingering anger he'd felt at how they had first parted became easily overlooked in the face of war, of the well-being of the planet, and, of course in the fact that Takashi lived.
Thank God.
While he had been glad, he hadn't exactly anticipated they would end up here all over again. A lot has changed for the both of them, after all.
But he's not complaining.
What he does complain about is the sound of his own phone going off. Didn't he turn that thing on silent?
With a groan, Adam rolls over to the side of the bed, fumbling around for his glasses. Which should be on the nightstand, but really, who knows where the hell they ended up after last night.
They are, decidedly, not on the nightstand. So he pushes himself up to a sitting position and just bangs his knee on the nightstand instead.
Oops--that was loud.
A sigh. ]
no subject
[Just to pretend. A little longer.]
[But the sounds from across the bed get his attention, and he's soon biting his tongue. More or less.]
... Kind of figured you'd have your eyes lasered by now.
[This oh so supportive statement from the man burying himself a little deeper in the pile of blankets, peering out at the familiar line, the familiar shape, currently nursing his knee.]
[Because... what do you say? How do you react to something like this? To finding someone you assumed you'd never see again alive and well? It's probably wildly different from Aadam's perspective. Shiro just assumed he wasn't ever getting back. That he was going to stay in space, die in space. The last part ended up being partially true... But he's not bringing it up right now.]
[He shifts enough to prop himself up on his shoulder.]
Need a hand?
no subject
Adam snorts as he turns his attention now down to the floor. His glasses have to be here somewhere... ]
Looked into it.
[ The technology has been around for a while.
He bends over, feeling around--did he just find his pants? ]
High refractive error in my left eye. Makes me a bad candidate.
[ Ah, yes he did. He pulls those up and manages to pull his phone out. Not quite what he was looking for at first, but at least he can silence it properly. He wiggles his phone at Takashi once he has. ]
Got it just in time to avoid an ill-placed hand-pun.
no subject
[It's sort of awkward to roll onto your side, expecting to use your elbow to prop you up -- and then not having it there. Some things, apparently, are going to take some getting used to. The dubious benefit, however, is leaning against Adam's back in the process.]
[It's nice.]
I'm sorry. I... didn't even know that was a thing. That doesn't mean they'll get worse, does it?
[Should he have known that? Was it something he should have been worried about? Or asked or--]
[Fortunately, there is a phone suddenly waggled in his face.]
It was a good pun.
no subject
Adam would shrug, but he doesn't want to dislodge the other man. ]
As I get older? Probably.
[ But it doesn't sound like anything he's particularly worried about. ]
I thought you liked the glasses look?
[ He raises a brow as he sets his phone down. ]
Not your best.
no subject
[For a moment, he shifts to rest his head against the back of Adam's shoulder.]
Probably. I guess there's time... [Which feels so weird to say. To think. Especially right here.] And you know I do.
[Speaking of which, maybe he should get up and help look, but...]
You've got to hand it to me, though. I tried. Didn't have to go out on a limb for that one.
[He'd go on. But this may or may not be Shiro testing the waters.]
no subject
Nice that Takashi is back in any capacity.
He broke his promise--that he wouldn't be here when Takashi came back--but he figures it's for the best. So much had changed. Old resentments seemed pointless (even if he did have a point).
Adam groans at the onslaught of puns and makes a point of rubbing his temples as if this is the cause of his next oncoming headache. It isn't. But that's not the point. ]
You're right, that's even worse.
[ Adam leans back a little, shifting Takashi's head to his shoulder instead. ]
I'm putting a stop to this now before it gets out of hand.
[ Yeah, he did that just for you, Captain Shirogane. ]
no subject
[So yes. They both have more time. They both have things to talk about. And he... has a lot to make up for.]
[But for now, he's just going to laugh. Not protesting the change in position at all. If he keeps his eyes shut... this could be a lifetime ago.]
Rude. I thought you liked my puns. [No he didn't. But it's an old "argument". One of the fake ones.]
You -- [There's a helpless laugh of his own. And he can't help it. He's wrapping his arm around Adam's waist.] You can't tell me that was better than mine.
no subject
I liked the clever ones.
[ Which, of course, implies that one wasn't clever. ]
It wasn't. I'm trying to stay on your level, Shirogane.
no subject
[Turning his hand to catch those slow moving fingertips.]
Going to have to call the burn unit for that one.
[Oh he gets you.] You're roasting me at this rate. I hate that I like it.
no subject
I guess some things haven't changed.
[ His voice is light, humored, which is a nice change from how tings had been the last several years. ]
The hair is growing on me, though.
no subject
[In a lot of ways. So many ways. Hear it in that tone, with that expression. With this hand laced around his. A quiet moment to themselves again.]
Oh yeah? You don't think I should get it dyed?
[He's kidding. He won't. But it's a thought.]
no subject
I don't know. I think I'm starting to like the sexy grandpa vibe.
[ Congratulations, Takashi, you've moved from "dad" to "grandad". How do you feel? ]
no subject
[Oh heck no. He pulls back a bit. Just a bit. It means he ends up staring dumbly at the back of Adam's neck, but oh well.]
Please don't call it that.
[Don't make him resort to Batman, babe.]
no subject
He found his pants--he's not wearing them. ]
No?
[ He quirks a brow ever so slightly. ]
Silver fox?
no subject
[Being called an old man is more of an issue, apparently. He pulls back and stubbornly pulls a blanket over his head.]
That's it. I'm dying it. Soon as possible.
[No he won't.]
no subject
It does look nice, Takashi.
no subject
[He's smiling too.]
Then maybe I'll keep it. For you. [He pauses.] You kept the glasses, after all.
no subject
Just for you.
[ He raises a brow at that peek. ]
I'm still going to need your help finding them...
[ ...Wherever they ended up. ]
But that can wait.
no subject
I'm so honored. You did all that just for me.
[Finally, he wiggles his head all the way out, nodding toward the other room.]
By the couch. You put them there so they wouldn't get broken.
[You idiot you knew the whole time??]
no subject
Of course, once he found out the truth, he gave the Garrison upper ups a strong, but professionally worded letter of concern. And by letter we mean dissertation.
He will need his glasses, though. At some point. Which apparently Takashi knew this entire time.
Adam opens his mouth and just-- ]
...To think I trusted you.
[ Takashi, why are you like this. ]
no subject
[Meanwhile, however, he's got his chin propped up in his hands, watching the realization play over Adam's features. Totally taking him in like it's the first time they've ever seen each other.]
[He's also smiling like an idiot.]
You're welcome.
[He's like this because you love his dumb ass.]
no subject
I don't need them to know just how you're smiling, you know.
[ He does love your dumb ass, Takashi. He does.
Which is why he shoves Takashi's face--however lightly--as he scoots back towards the edge of the bed. Apparently he has to go all the way to the living room to get them. ]
no subject
[Look, they had a good night. They had a long talk already. It's... so easy just to fall back into old patterns. Old habits. Poking fun at him.]
[Even when he's shoved.]
[He lets himself roll with the shove, only to pop his face back up again.]
Take your time. View hasn't changed.
[SHIRO. FOR FUCK'S SAKE.]
